State Senator Julie Bartling (D-Burke) is
announcing her candidacy for the office of South Dakota State Auditor. Bartling, in the midst of her 5th
term as a South Dakota legislator, currently serves on the Joint Appropriations Committee, the Senate Appropriations Committee,
and the Joint Government Operations and Audit Committee. Bartling also serves as chairperson of the South
Dakota Corrections Commission for the 2009-2010 term.
Senator Bartling currently represents the citizens of District 26, which
is comprised of Gregory, Mellette, Todd and Tripp counties.Bartling ‘s commitment to running an efficient Office of the State Auditor comes from her valuable
experience as the Gregory County Auditor for eighteen years, eight years of service on the SD House and Senate Appropriations
Committee, and her appointment to serve on the 2009-2010 Government Operations and Audit Committee. Checks
and balances of state government expenditures, ensuring that taxpayer dollars are spent appropriately and constitutionally,
pre-audit of all claims against the state, and watchdog over governmental contracts are duties of the office that Bartling
guarantees will be of the highest priority of her office.
“The Office of the State Auditor is constitutionally defined, and thus, the duties of the State
Auditor must be upheld to the highest level of accuracy and trustworthiness”, commented Bartling. “I
believe my eighteen years of experience as a locally elected county official and the eight years of service on House and Senate
Appropriations Committees is an attribute that I can put forth in my efforts to receive my party’s nomination for the
Office of the State Auditor and the favorable vote of the electorate of South Dakota.”
Julie and her husband, Bart, own and operate an agriculture-based business

Bartling comments, “I’m so very pleased to announce my intentions
to seek election to the Office of State Auditor as I believe South Dakota is a great place to live and I’m committed
to making it even better for all of our children and grandchildren. The November 2010 election is just
over a year away and even though I will be working to earn the South Dakota voters’ confidence to serve as their State
Auditor, I will also focus on the needs of my constituents of District 26 for the remainder of my term. I
will not falter in my dedication to my Senate seat for District 26, as well the entire state’s legislative needs during
some very difficult economic times for our State. I am there for the people who elected me and will
continue to be so throughout the entire 2010 election process. Please email me at julie@bartlingfor southdakota

I whole-heartedly thank the people of South Dakota, and especially those from District 26 for their generous support
over the past years and I look forward to working for all South Dakotans in the capacity of South Dakota State Auditor.”
